Vizio VP50 HDTV Reviewed

Vizio VP50HDTVThe Vizio VP50HDTV as you might guess from the name is a HDTV, a 50-inch plasma HDTV to be exact. The VP50 HDTV offers you a large 50-inch screen for a great price of just shy of $1,500 which is a lot of screen for the money. Vizio might not be the first band you think of when you think HDTVs, but they are gaining market space by offering a decent HDTV for less than the big names. The Vizio VP50 is a 720p or 1080i (1366 x 768 resolution) HD set which offers a brightness of 1,500 cd/m and a contrast ratio of 15,000:1 and offers a vast 231 billion colors for a great vivid image, and comes in a stylish sliver and black gloss finish. The set has already received some great user reviews extremely happy with their large 50-inch plasma set for a great price, now Cnet take a look and give their professional view and say, connectivity of the VP50HDTV begins with two HDMI ports. We appreciate the completeness of the rest of the rear-panel jack-pack, which includes two component-video inputs; two AV inputs with S-video and composite video; a VGA-style PC input, and an RF input for a direct cable connection or for use with an antenna to take advantage of the internal ATSC tuner.

Overall, the Vizio VP50HDTV offers decent picture quality, especially considering its price, but compared to most plasmas we’ve reviewed recently, it falls somewhat short of video Nirvana. Our biggest complaint has to do with its light color of black.

When fed standard-definition sources, the VP50HDTV’s video processing performed better than that of many HDTVs we’ve seen recently. The color bar pattern on the HQV disc was resolved perfectly. The Vizio P50HDTV performed very well as a big PC monitor when we connected a PC via VGA.
