Sony has unleashed their official information at this years CES show, announcing six new HDTV ranges. This is the same number as last year, but all the models are brand new.
First up we have their typical flagship XBR range, this year known as the Sony XBR9 series which is available in three sizes. Secondly, Sony have announced their “Eco” Bravia range, the Sony VE5 series, which uses 40% less power than the other LCD HDTVs in their range. One step down from the XBR9 series is the Sony Z5100 series, the new Z Series which is available in three sizes.
The other three ranges are the Sony Bravia V, Bravia L, and Bravia S series, all of which now feature Sony’s MotionFlow 120Hz technology.
The top of the line HDTV from Sony for 2009 is the Sony Bravia XBR9 series. Which is available in four sizes, as the 52-inch Sony KDL-52XBR9, 46-inch Sony KDL-46XBR9, 40-inch Sony KDL-40XBR9 and smallest 32-inch Sony KDL-32XBR9. All but the 32-inch model features the new MotionFlow 240Hz high frame rate technology, which is twice as fast as least years best.
The larger three of the Sony XBR9 series are powered by the latest Sony Bravia Engine 3, and have Bravia Internet Video link and widget support.

One model down from the top of the range XBR9 is the Sony Bravia Z Series / Z5100. This series is very similar to the XBR9, and features the same BRAVIA Internet video / widgets technology and new MotionFlow 240Hz technology. Available in three sizes as the 40-inch Sony KDL-40Z5100, 46-inch Sony KDL-46Z5100 and the 52-Inch Sony KDL-40Z5100.

The Sony VE5 Series is Sony’s “Eco” HDTV, and their most environmentally friendly HDTV to-date. Using 40% less power than their other HDTVs of the same size, the Sony Bravia VE5 series uses a micro-tubular Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (HCFL) backlight to save power, and features a “Zero watts” standby mode. There is also a motion sensor to automatically turn the HDTV off when no one is watching, and a light sensor to adjust the backlight to save more power.
The Bravia VE5 series is available in three sizes, as the 40-inch Sony KDL-40VE5, 46-inch Sony KDL-46VE5 and as the 52-inch Sony KDL-52VE5. All feature a 1080p Full HD LCD panel, MotionFlow 120Hz technology and Bravia Engine 2.

Announced later than the other Sony HDTVs, the Sony W5100 series offers the same advanced Bravia Internet Video / widgets technology as the more expensive XBR9 and Z5100 series, but at a lower price. The still very well featured Sony Bravia W5100 series is available in as the 40-inch KDL-40W5100, 46-inch KDL-46W5100 and as the 52-inch KDL-52W5100.
With Bravia Engine 3, 120Hz Motion Flow, 24p True Cinema and 1080p LCD the W5100 series should be an popular range for 2009.
Starting off the less expensive models are the Sony Bravia V5100 Series, the 2009 Sony Bravia V series. Available in three model sizes, all have a full HD 1080p LCD panel, and MotionFlow 120Hz technology.
Available as the 52-inch Sony KDL-52V5100, 46-inch Sony KDL-46V5100 and the 40-inch Sony KDL-40V5100. Along with the MotionFlow 120Hz technology, all sets feature Sony’s Bravia Engine 2 support and boast 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs. A USB 2.0 inputs allows playback of photos or digital music via a USB storage device. A Light Sensor provides dynamic backlight control to save energy.

Sony Bravia S5100 Series (2009 Bravia S Series)
The Sony S5100 Series have a Full HD / 1080p LCD panel, and feature Sony’s Bravia Engine 2 technology for image processing and improvement. The Sony Bravia S5100 series is available in four sizes, as the 52-inch Sony KDL-52S5100, 46-inch Sony KDL-46S5100, 40-inch Sony KDL-40S5100 and the 32-inch KDL-32S5100.
They all offer three HDMI 1.3 inputs, PC VGA input, component, composite and s-video inputs. A light sensor provides dynamic backlight control for improved viewing conditions and power saving.

Sony Bravia L5000 Series (Bravia L Series)
The final new Sony HDTV for 2009 is the Sony Bravia L Series, also known as the Sony Bravia L5000 Series. Aimed for use in the bedroom, office, kitchen or for a second HDTV, the Sony L5000 Series model have a 720p HD resolution and three HDMI 1.3 inputs.
Available in two sizes as the 26-inch Sony KDL-26L5000, or as the 32-inch Sony KDL-32L5000. Other inputs include PC VGA, component, composite and s-video.
The Sony L Series, like all the LCD HDTVs announced by Sony for 2009 will be available the Spring.
