Right now Samsung seems to be on fire with new HD technologies. Along with the 40-inch 1080p OLED HDTV that Samsung announced only yesterday at the the FPD International, they have now shown off a 63-inch Ultra Fine plasma.
This Samsung Ultra Fine plasma panel has a 4k x 2k (4,096 x 2,160 pixel) resolution, much higher than the current highest HD format 1080p of 1920×1080 pixels. This is the first major step towards Super Hi-Vision, although I’m sure it would be mighty hard to find any content in that resolution!
Other specifications are currently unknown, but right now it’s that amazing resolution that matters. Don’t worry about that 1080p HDTV you just spend your money on, as I’m sure it will be many many years before we see any real commercial products for super Hi-vision / Super HD
