Samsung LN-S4696D Review

Samsung LN-S4696DThe Samsung LN-S4696D is a large 46-inch LCD which is fully 1080p compatible and has a very stylish finish. The LN-S4696D has two HDMI inputs, component and PC VGA inputs all of which support 1080p to get the max out of this LCD. PcMag have taken a look at this Samsung and say, all of these HD-compatible inputs support input resolutions up to 1080p (1,920 by 1,080 pixels progressively scanned), matching the native resolution of the LCD itself.

The Samsung LN-S4696D is certainly a stylish HDTV that provides plenty of video inputs capable of supporting its 1080p resolution. But its lackluster performance with interlaced video and its comparatively mediocre contrast ratio tarnished it in my view. Also, I’m disappointed that an HDTV that is equipped enough to accept and display 1080p video sacrifices a significant portion of the picture to excessive overscan, slightly softening the picture with HD sources at all resolutions (720p, 1080i/p). Samsung’s dominance in the LCD HDTV market lets it deliver compelling display technologies at competitive prices, but with this one, the end result isn’t as pleasing as it could be.
