This time of year is an exciting time for HDTV review sites, as it’s when we begin see the new models show up. Samsung announced their new models for 2009 earlier this year, and the Samsung LE40B650 seems to be the very first through the door.
Samsung seems to be the leading brand right now and we’re sure that the 40-inch Samsung LE40B650 will be very popular indeed. The great looking LE40B650 is from Samsung’s mid range of models, meaning it’s well priced at roughly £1,100. Just like every year, we tend to find that the new mid-range models are pretty much on par with the top range models of the year before.
The Samsung LE40B650 features the popular “Touch of Colour” design styling with ‘Crystal’ transparent edges and honeycomb finish. As you would expect, the LE40B650 features a full HD / 1080p LCD panel for the highest resolution, and 100Hz Motion Plus processing (customisable) for reducing motion blur and image judder.
Connectivity is good on the Samsung LE40B650, with 4x HDMI 1.3 inputs, component, scart and PC VGA inputs. There are also 2x USB 2.0 inputs for media playback, which can even playback videos from a USB hard drive. An Ethernet port enables media streaming from other networked computer via DLNA, Widgets, and also Internet access via Samsung’s “portal” for YouTube, flickr and other sites.
Having got their hands on the Samsung LE40B650, TrustedReviews gave the LE40B650 a great rating of 9 out of 10 for Image quality and over all, saying it does a great job of rendering the detail levels and clarity from our favourite HD sources. I’m happy to report that this HD sharpness isn’t reduced much when there’s a lot of motion in the picture. For the 100Hz engine can take out the vast majority of LCD’s traditional motion blur. Tthe Samsung LE40B650′s design flare, HD quality and pioneering spirit ultimately persuaded me in to giving it a 9 out of 10
