The 42-inch no motion lag LCD 42PF9831D has been reviewed by HomeTheaterMag kindly and say, the 42PF9831D is a 1,366-by-768 high-definition display with Ambilight Full Surround technology, Philips’ exclusive four-sided screen lighting system (more on this later). It also features Clear LCD signal processing—which works with the Aptura backlight for faster response time—CableCARD, a memory-card reader, and Pixel Plus 3 upconversion.

The 42PF9831D’s biggest innovation is Aptura. The backlight is located in the back of the LCD panel and creates panel illumination. The new Philips Aptura lighting technology is a hot cathode fluorescent (HCF). Read more

The 42″ Philips 42PF5521 plasma HDTV has great quality images and freeview channels from the internal freeview tuner. The 42PF5521 plasma has Digital Crystal clear technology and virtual dolby surround sound and features teletext and electronic program guide. The 42PF5521 has a contrast ratio of 10 000:1, with a fast response time on 3ms and a 852 x 480 resolution.

The 42PF5421 is one of Philips cheaper LCDs aimed at the “budget” market. With it’s cheaper price tag we hope it can stand up to the competition, which at first look appears promising, offering a great design and robust build.
Trusted Reviews take a look at the 42PF5421 and say, the key specs claimed by Philips for the 42PF5421 show an HD-friendly native resolution of 1,366 x 768, an actually slightly higher than average brightness output of 550cd/m2, but a worryingly low contrast figure of 800:1. Let’s hope this doesn’t indicate any severe black level deficiencies.

Philips today have announced that they have now produced and sent out it’s Millionth Ambilight HDTV from it’s production line. Philips Ambilight TVs emit ambient light from the surrounding of the LCD to enhance the viewing experience and help to reduce eye strain.

This big mile stone for Philips comes at the same time as it’s 10th year anniversary for it’s for flat panel LCD, the success of the Ambilight demonstrates that Ambilight has clearly become a hit with consumers - it not only enhances the overall viewing experience but it also makes watching TV easier on the eyes - says Philips CEO Rudy Provoost.

PC World has a great review of the Philips 42PF9631D 42-inch plasma, where they say, Our test jurors found the 42PF9631D’s performance pleasing on DVD and standard-definition content, but we particularly liked its high-definition TV performance for its nice balance. This Philips model also stood out in our bright lights test, in which it led the pack for retaining its colour and contrast well under bright lights. We did not test this model with its Ambilight feature enabled.

The 42PF9631D’s array of inputs is one of the better ones I’ve seen on a 42-inch plasma lately. All inputs are well identified and easily reached. The left side offers inputs for USB, headphone jack, composite and S-Video, and audio inputs useful for connecting a camcorder or digital camera. Read more

Philips have extended their FlatTV line up by adding the 47PF9441D and the 63PF9631D, the first is a 47-inch LCD with has the full HD 1080p resolution and specifications and features Virtual Dolby Digital audio. The second, 63PF9631D is a larger 63-inch plasma which has the lesser 1080i resolution but some rather nice features such as a USB connection to stream images or mp3s. Read more

The Philips Cineos 37PF9731D has been getting some top class reviews, and TrustedReviews have animpressive review where they say, it’s the best LCD television that I have ever laid eyes on. Now, I’m not generally in the habit of giving the ending away at the beginning of my reviews, but in the case of this television I couldn’t really help myself, it really is that good.

The 37PF9731D is the replacement for the highly acclaimed Philips 37PF9830. This new set therefore has quite a bit to live up to, but boy does it deliver! Like its predecessor, the 37PF9731D incorporates a 37in panel with a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. This means that the 37PF9731D can be considered a “Full HD” or “True HD” screen, depending on who’s marketing blurb you want to quote. In reality, it means that you’re getting 1,080 lines displayed to provide an even more detailed image than the more common 768 line HD TVs can muster.

The guys at cnet have reviewed the Philips 42PF9631D and said that it is among the company’s least expensive Ambilight-equipped televisions yet, and since it costs about the same as other name-brand 42-inch plasmas, you’re not paying any more for the ‘lights–and you can turn them off. This HDTV has a solid feature set otherwise, and its distinctive style certainly increases its appeal. Testing revealed solid black-level performance and color that was a mixed bag, although we did notice a couple picture-quality issues that don’t plague other most plasmas or LCDs we’ve reviewed this year. That said, the image on the 42PF9631D will be perfectly fine for most viewers, and the rest of the package–especially the price–keeps it competitive.

Aside from Ambilight, the 42PF9631D offers a solid feature set. It has a native resolution of 1,024×768, as do most 42-inch plasmas. All material, whether HDTV, DVD, or standard television, is scaled to fit the pixels. You can choose to watch two shows at once, thanks to picture-in-picture and enjoy over-the-air digital and high-def shows via the ATSC tuner, which is common to almost every HDTV. Like many manufacturers, Philips did not include a CableCard slot, but that’s no big loss as far as we’re concerned. Read more

The Philips 42PF9731D flat-panel HDTV has three fluorescent backlights on the top and sides of its back cabinet. Place it on or near a white wall, and the colored lights project past the frame around the screen. Ambilight can be set to respond to the onscreen image — turning blue during a wide shot of a blimp in the summer sky over a sporting event, for example, then green when the camera returns to the grassy field. In effect, it extends the screen’s colors toward the edges of your walls and ceiling.
With a pair of HDMI jacks, two component-video inputs, and an assortment of lower-rez connections, the 42PF9731D can handle just about any home theater gear.

The Philips Ambilight 42PF9731D 42-inch LCD HDTV can produce a commendable picture in bright light, although its home theater image falls a bit short of what the best LCDs out there can produce. Read more

Pixel Plus 3 HD technology provides bright and vivid colors and clarity to both HD and non HD sources. The 32PF9731D has two HDMI inputs two SCART, and UBS connection for showing photos on screen.
