JVC LT-37X987 Review

LT-37X987The JVC LT-37X987 LCD HDTV is a 37-inch set with an ultra fast response and refresh rate of 120Hz, roughly twice that of a normal set. Home Theater Mag has a review of the LT-37X987 and say, the LT-37X987 is 1,366 by 768. This may not seem all that exciting in this age of 1080p, but, in a 37-inch panel, 1080p is useless unless you’ve got your face to the glass. Two HDMI and component inputs are fine, although more would always be welcome.

With the Silicon Optix test DVD, the LT-37X987 performed pretty well. There were small jagged edges on the flag test, but they were minimal. Overall, its video processing was a touch above average. It didn’t lock to the 3:2 sequence on this disc, and it took a longer-than-average time to lock to it with actual video material (Gladiator). If you set the Natural Cinema to On instead of Auto, the set catches the 3:2 a little faster. The scaler did a good job pulling out the detail in DVD sources, as evidenced by The Fifth Element.

JVC HD-56FN97 Review

HD-56FN97The HD-56FN97 is JVC’s latest 1080p HD-ILA technology based HDTV, coming in at 56-inches. Cnet have a review of the HD-56FN97 and say like most high-end rear-projection HDTVs the JVC HD-56FN97 boasts a native resolution of 1080p, which is the highest available today. There are a total of three HD-ILA chips, one each for red, green, and blue, each with 1,920×1,080 discrete pixels.

This top-of-the-line HDTV is equipped with quite a few convenience features. There’s single-tuner PIP, labeled Twin on the remote, which when combined with another tuner from a cable box, for example, will give you the ability to watch two programs simultaneously. A CableCard slot is onboard for those who want to bypass a cable box, although you’ll also lose the programming grid, because the JVC lacks an EPG such as TV Guide. Of course there is an ATSC tuner for the reception of local off-air HDTV broadcasts. The number of aspect ratio choices is about average: four with standard-def sources and three wih high-def.

JVC LT-40FN97 Review

JVC LT-40FN97JVC are up against stiff competition against the HDTV leaders but the JVC LT-40FN97 could change all that with a promising JVC HDTV.

The LT-40FN97 offers an extensive list of features along with 1080p native resolution, and indeed, it can display every detail of 1080i HDTV sources. Its picture quality does fall a bit short of that of the other high-end LCDs we’ve tested recently, however, exhibiting less aplomb in dark areas, along with a bit more blue. Nonetheless, the JVC LT-40PN97 is among the least expensive 1080p models available, and this, in addition to its strong feature set, should be enough to win some converts.

As a 1080p display, the JVC LT-40FN97 boasts a native resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels, the highest available today, and enough to display every detail of 1080i HDTV sources. All other sources, whether HDTV, DVD, standard-def, or computer, are scaled to fit the native resolution.
