Just from looking at the Philips 42PFL9664 HDTV you can tell that it is one of Philips highend models. The 42-inch 42PFL9664 is in fact one of Philips flagship models, meaning it is one of the very best on the market today.
I very much like the design of the Philips 42PFL9664, it reminds me of the older Sony W3000 series, but with a more modern design and slimmer bezel of just 25mm. It is also very small at just 49mm thick.
Unlike many other “ultra-slim” HDTVs the 42PFL9664 isn’t LED “edge-lit”, and contains all of components in the HDTV itself. As you would expect from a flagship model, the Philips 42PFL9664 features a Full HD / 1080p LCD panel, with a very high 80,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and 200Hz Clear LCD technology to keep the image sharp and clear during fast motion scenes.
The Philips 42PFL9664 is also much better connected than most HDTVs, and offers 5x HDMI inputs, thats one or two more than most currently on the market. Like a number of highend HDTVs on the market, the 42PFL9664 is “Internet connected” and offers Philips Net TV, which is currently the best offering by any manufacturer, enabling video streaming from a number of web sites. The Philips 42PFL9664 features both an Ethernet connection and a built-in 802.11g WiFi.
Trsuted Reviews gave the Philips 42PFL9664 nine out of ten for image quality, design and features, with an overall rating of nine out of ten. They said the 42PFL9664 continues to show that when the Philips brand is in flagship, no-holds-barred mode, it’s very much still an innovative, original and lovably eccentric HDTV force to be reckoned with.
