Sky are going to replace 90,000 Sky+ HD boxes after a cabling fault had been discovered.
The fault was discovered by one of the Sky+ HD box manufacturers, Pace. This fault will affect about one in ten HD customers, resulting in 90,000 boxes which need replacing.
The fault apparently involved internal cabling and their connection quality between components. Sky also points out that there is no safety risk.
Only Pace boxes are affected, so you might not necessarily need your box replacing. The faulty model numbers are as follows: 9F3001, 9F3002, 9F3003 and 9F3004.
As well as swapping the Sky boxes free of charge, Sky are also throwing in three months free HD subscription worth £29.25 to any one affected.
Sky expect the replacement programme to take about three months. Sky also said “The box can continue to be used in the normal way, as installed by a Sky engineer, until we come to replace it.”
