7 in 10 People Own or Want Flat Screen HDTV

Hitachi have found that seven in ten people in America either currently own or want a flat screen HDTV. Apparently they have found that 19% of Americans currently own a flat screen set, and a huge 52% are actively interested in purchasing one. If these figures stay true, flat screen sales should stay high for the next few years at least.

Prices have fallen hugely over the last year, but it’s still upper income Americans who are mostly likely to own one. According to Hitachi, 30% of people earning over $50,000 have a flat screen while only 9% under this limit will.

60% of Americans said image quality was the most important factor (except for price) and 66% of Americans have trouble explaining the different formats of High-Definition, such as 1080i and 1080p.
