Netgear EVA9150 (EVA9000) | Digital Entertainer Elite

Details of the new and upcoming Netgear EVA9000 Digital Entertainer Elite media streamer have emerged as it was passing through the FCC test stages. Building on the success of the popular Digital Entertainer HD (EVA8000) the Netgear EVA9150 looks very impressive.

With support for an internal 3.5-inch SATA HDD, and fast dual band 802.11n wireless networking, enabling space for plenty of storage and speed to stream and playback HD content. And now for the great news, unlike many media streamers, the Netgear Digital Entertainer Elite EVA9000 has excellent codec support, for both HD media formats and even HD audio formats.

The Netgear EVA9000 supports AVI, DivX, XviD, h.264 decoding and MKV files. Other formats include TS, M2TS, VOB, ISO and Dolby True HD, DTS-HD Master Audio. So basically the Netgear EVA9000 should be able to handle anything you throw at it!

Outputs and connections include HDMI, Component, s-video, scart, coaxial SPDIF, optical SPDIF, Ethernet and 2x USB 2.0 (front / back).

I think this is the very first HD media streamer that I have been seriously interested in. Expect to see more of the Netgear EVA9000 Digital Entertainer Elite media streamer at CES in January 2009.

Update: Some more information has come to light, and the name now seems to be the Netgear EVA9150 Digital Entertainer Elite, even though the photos still show the EVA9000 label. As well as the new name some more details have emmerged.  Expect to see it in the 1st quater of 09, for $400, which will get you a 500GB HDD (which can also be swapped out and upgraded) , and a new user interface, which allows you to surf around free content providers, and full 1080p HD support.
