If you hadn’t noticed 3D is coming, and in a big way very quickly.
Last year the “in thing” was ultra thin HDTVs, with various manufacturers trying to out do the other with their slimmer TV and claiming the worlds thinnest title.
This year it’s all about 3D HDTV, whether you like it or not. All the major manufacturers announced at least one HDTV range with 3D support, or 3D Ready as it’s become known.
3D TV has just had a big push in the right direction by HDMI licensing group opening up the 3D portion of the new HDMI 1.4 specification. This is great news, as there will be a clear standard for 3D, and there won’t be a format war or multiple formats floating around. 3D Blu-ray as already been approved and fixed.
Now that the 3D HDMI 1.4 spec has been opened non licensees can make their equipment compatible.
I’m not sure if the whole 3D TV will take off, but as we should soon be receiving it via satellite, cable and on Blu-ray, I’m going to make sure the next HDTV I buy supports 3D!
