JVC HD-58S998
JVC’s extremely thin and stylish HD-58S998 HDTV is by far the thinest rear projection HDTV we have ever seen, so thin, you can mount it on the wall just like an LCD or plasma display. The total depth of the HD-58S998 is just 11-inches, thats almost half as much as other rear-projection sets. The 58-inch set is full 1080p LCoS TV with D-ILA from JVC for extra fine picture quality. There is also a larger 65-inch version available, the HD-65S998 for $4,200.
ConsumerReports have taken a first look at the HD-58S998 and say fine overall picture quality. This 1080p set has very good picture quality with HD and DVD programs, with respectable black levels and color rendition, though it’s a step below that of our best rear-projection models.
The overall picture quality of the HD-58S998 was very good, although it exhibited some geometric picture flaws, particularly at the edges of the screen. The real draw, however, is its thin depth, which makes the TV worth considering if you’re looking for a big-screen experience that doesn’t take up a lot of floor space.
