If you remember back to the format war between HD-DVD and Blu-ray, you will remember that Toshiba was a key HD-DVD supporter.
Even since Blu-ray’s win, Toshiba has yet to join the other manufacturers in producing a Blu-ray player.
It now seems that things are about to change, with the Toshiba BD-18 blu-ray player. The DB-18 will be Toshiba’s first blu-ray / DVD player on the market, and should be available by the end of this year.
Very few details are available about the Toshiba DB18, but we are pretty sure it will feature HDMI output, and support BD-Live / Blu-ray profile 2.0, and support DVD upscaling.
It has also been reported that Toshiba has shown strong interest in considering a Blu-ray recorder to the Japanese market.
Hopefully we will see the Toshiba BD-18 on the market by Christmas, at an attractive price!
