Sharp BD-HP22U, BD-HP16U

sharp bd-hp22uNew for 2009, Sharp have announced two new blu-ray players, the Sharp BD-HP22U and the Sharp BD-HP16U. Both support 1080p HD playback, along with 24p output. While the top of the range Sharp BD-HP22U support blu-ray profile 2.0 / BD-Live right out of the box.

BD-Live / profile 2.0 enabled many interactive features though the Ethernet port and Internet connection, for downloable content and streaming bonus content, such as additional scenes, interactive games, trailers and more.

Both the Sharp BD-HP16U and BD-HP22U support advanced audio decoding and high picture quality to AQUOS Pure Mode, which automatically selects the best picture mode, such as “dot by dot” where every pixel is matched directly on the HDTV, so no stretching or scaling is introduced.

The Sharp BD-HP22U and BD-HP16U players outputs advanced lossless surround sound formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio via HDMI digital output, and also decoded Dolby Digital Plus.

The BD-HP22U and BD-HP16U enable superior video quality with state-of-the-art HDMI™ 1.3 digital output with x.v. color, and 1920 x 1080 video at 24 frames per second output, matching the playback of the original film. This feature eliminates the need for frame-rate conversion that can cause motion artifacts on film-based material and degrade image quality.

Other features included “quick start” for quick disc loading, and 2GB of USB memory (for BD-Live content), JPEG viewer and low power consumption. Both players are also compatible with DVD formats and audio CDs
